hey, i just joined, i study fine art and textiles in kidderminster UK, i hope to go into fashion design at some, i feel i can express so muich more through textiles, its awesome.
i was wondering if anyone knew any good wool and fibre suppliers (for felt making) in the uk? that are availiable online
I have created an account to sell my wearable art - robori
If you'd like to check out what I get up to, and laugh at my craptacular photography skills, please, head on over & check it out.
My catalogue arrived and in it was this marvellous stuff called cold wax
, which means a heap of stress if off me regarding safety for newbies with batik. It also means I'll be willing to teach kids! (no way in hell am I going to be responsible for kids around molten wax!)
Oh, this is going to be so much fun! I need to persuade my dear, adorable partner to let me buy some of this stuff for me so I can test out how much I'll need per class....
Has anyone used it? How much do you use to do a 1m x 1m square (about 3'x 3')
Classes, supplies, the whole shebang
I can see myself spending a lot of my disposable income here... Kraft Kolour
From the beginning. I'm doing an art course at the community college. A few months ago the instructor pissed off leaving us without a class. I realised I could quite easily teach the class, so I applied for the job. Due to a weirdness regarding qualifications, I didn't get the job. But, on the basis of my folio & enthusiasm for textiles, I was asked to submit a synopsis of the course(s) I'd like to run along with a costing of the supplies for it. (That would be Batik & Tie-dye)
The supplies aren't to be found locally, so I said so to the head of admin. She said to send her the synopsis anyway & she's put it in the brochure for expressions of interest. I'll be teaching the class. I've already had four expressions of interest from my classmates in the art course.
Anyway, it's been a little while since I did either of the techniques I'm teaching, so I was a little nervy about the idea of teaching them. On Saturday, while I was waiting for my partner to come pick me up, I wrote out the instructions for the course, from memory. I'm feeling a lot less concerned than I was earlier that day.
Wish me luck & lots & lots of art supplies. :D

So there are two of us now! :)
I received my BA in Textiles a couple years ago and hope to pursue my MFA in a couple years. Took some time off to pay off those bills, you know.
Uh yeah, so I guess that's my introduction and the first post in the group. Hooray for me! Current Mood: weird
